Hammocks, Margaritas, and Puerto Vallarta

Hammocks, Margaritas, and Puerto Vallarta
It was March, 1987, and my wife and I had just been dropped off at our hotel after a sweaty, white-knuckle ride in a taxi from the airport in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The lobby of the hotel was gorgeous, making a great first impression. Although the hotel was modern by all standards, the lobby area was jungle-rus.ru>rustic and had been built of poles and beams in what I guessed was a traditional method of building a structure that you might find in the jungles of the region.

The roof soared 30-40 feet high and was made of thatched palm leaves. Very cool, so far so good.We were anxious to get checked in and change our clothes into our swim suits. Then we planned to hit the beach and have our first of what would be many frozen margaritas. Then we planned to hit the beach and have our first of what would be many frozen margaritas.
After changing we flip-flopped our way back across the lobby, stopping at the pool bar to order our drinks. While the bartender was salting the rims of our glasses and blending the frozen concoction that Jimmy Buffet sings about, I spotted a perfect place to begin our relaxing afternoon at the beach - an island hammock built for two, stretched between two palm trees. And this is where I spent the better part of my vacation in Puerto Vallarta, margarita in hand. And it was on this March day in 1987 when I realized that the thing Id always felt was missing from my life was... my own backyard hammock. Hey, I dont ask for much.Few things in life are more relaxing than napping in a hammock in your own backyard, in the shade, reading a good book, or listening to some good music on your IPod. Ive gone through eight or nine hammocks rus.ru>over the past twenty-plus years and Ive enjoyed every one of them. We even replaced the traditional porch swing with a good chair hammock. Everybody loves sitting in it, swinging gently in the cool night air. Ive become kind of particular about my hammocks, and always buy quality, because quality lasts.I learned the hard way not to buy cheap hammocks. When I got back from that trip to Puerto Vallarta I rus.ru>rushed down to the local big-box discount store. I bought what was on sale or what was on display because I was so anxious to get home and get it set up. Well, it turned out to be not so well made, but at least it lasted the summer. Live and learn, right? After that I decided that I wouldnt buy my next hammock just because it was on sale, and that maybe the big box stores werent the best place to buy a good hammock. Over the years Ive learned a few things about hammocks:First of all, hammocks come in lots of styles, sizes, materials, and colors, so there definitely is a hammock out there that will suit your needs. Dont forget to think about how you will hang your hammock. While the idyllic location is to hang it between two trees, not everybody has that option. If you dont have two sturdy trees spaced about 13-16 feet apart you will also need to look for a good quality hammock stand to hang your hammock. Hammock stands are typically sold separately, but some hammocks are sold as a combo.Hammocks are made from a variety of material, and come in various models. The hammock that I spent my Mexico vacation in was a rope hammock. As the name implies rope hammocks are made of rope, usually soft cotton, or polyester cord. But you can also get a quilted hammock, a cotton hammock, a fabric hammock, or camping hammocks. Hammocks come in single or double size (for napping with your sweetie). The best places to find hammocks is online. The variety to choose from at an online hammock retailer makes the selection at the local retail outlet almost laughable. And in most cases shipping from an online merchant is free. You wont get near-instant gratification when you buy online due to the shipping time, but that will give you plenty of time to work on your recipe for that perfect margarita! Happy napping!.
